Running an Older Avaya IP Office? Plan Your Move Before It Bites

On an older Avaya IP Office release? Older releases carry critical security flaws. We migrate you to 3CX, Teams or hosted PBX — numbers kept, cutover planned.

Avaya is still very much in business — it came out of its second round of Chapter 11 as a private company in May 2023, and IP Office is an active product, with Release 12.0 reaching general availability in May 2024 and Release 12.1 in December 2024. The honest issue isn't that the platform is dead — it's that older IP Office releases carry critical, internet-exploitable security holes, and Avaya has narrowed its focus to its largest enterprise customers. If you run IP Office on an IP500 V2 with legacy Avaya handsets, now is the time to review where it's heading. SIP Connect moves you off ageing on-premises kit onto a modern system that costs less and does more.

The honest situation

Avaya IP Office has not reached end of life — the platform is actively sold and developed. But specific older software releases are winding down: Release 10.1 has an End of Sale date of 31 December 2024 and End of Manufacturer Support of 31 December 2025, after which Avaya issues no further patches for it. More pressing, any IP Office system running software earlier than Release 11.1.3.1 is exposed to two critical, remotely exploitable vulnerabilities — CVE-2024-4196 (CVSS 9.8) and CVE-2024-4197 (CVSS 9.9) — both allowing remote code execution. They are fixed in 11.1.3.1 and later. If you're not certain which release your system runs, that uncertainty is itself the risk. Waiting doesn't save money; it just shrinks your options.

Why move with a local team

To be clear, SIP Connect does not sell Avaya — we specialise in migrating businesses off ageing systems and onto something built for the next decade. We're vendor-neutral, so we recommend the platform that genuinely fits how you work, not the one we're tied to. When you call, you reach a real person in Greensborough — no offshore call centre, no robots. Our team brings over 80 years of combined industry experience, and customers rate us 5.0 on Google. As an authorised Yealink reseller and a 3CX Partner, we know the modern platforms inside out, and we'll tell you straight if upgrading your current release makes more sense than replacing it.

Your migration options

We move IP Office-stranded businesses onto the system that actually suits them:

  • 3CX — feature-rich and cost-cutting, hosted or on-premises. Licensed by simultaneous calls rather than per extension, with free inter-office calls and free video conferencing.
  • Hosted & Cloud PBX — every enterprise calling feature, with nothing on-site to patch, maintain or replace.
  • Microsoft Teams calling — if your team already lives in Teams, Direct Routing turns it into your phone system, with no SBC for you to manage.

Every one of these runs on modern SIP trunks rather than ageing copper, and we lay out the full picture in our legacy phone system replacement guide.

A migration planned to avoid downtime

We keep your existing numbers through clean number porting, plan the cutover around your trading hours, train your staff and switch you over cleanly — often live in days, not weeks. Coming off old hardware is also the moment to stop overpaying: our bill reviews have identified savings of up to 65%.

One team for phones and the internet underneath

Because we also supply the connection your new system runs on — business NBN, gigabit fibre or 5G fixed wireless, with internet failover if calls must never drop — the whole setup is tuned to work together, monitored 24/7, and backed by one local team. No finger-pointing between providers when something needs a hand.

Real Connections. Real Easy. Send us a recent bill and we'll show you exactly what a clean move off your old Avaya IP Office looks like — and what it saves.

Frequently asked questions

Is Avaya IP Office end of life?

No. The IP Office platform is still actively sold and developed, with Release 12.1 reaching general availability in December 2024, and the IP500 V2 remains a supported component in current releases. What does reach end of life is specific older software — for example, Release 10.1 reaches End of Manufacturer Support on 31 December 2025. If you're on an older release, the smart move is to plan a path forward while you still have choices.

Why should I be concerned about an older IP Office release?

Systems running software earlier than Release 11.1.3.1 are exposed to two critical, remotely exploitable vulnerabilities — CVE-2024-4196 (CVSS 9.8) and CVE-2024-4197 (CVSS 9.9) — both allowing remote code execution. They're fixed from 11.1.3.1 onward. We can help you check which release you're on and weigh up patching versus migrating to a modern cloud or SIP solution.

Will moving off Avaya disrupt my business?

Done properly, no. We port your existing numbers and schedule the switch so calls keep flowing, and most migrations are live in days, not weeks. Your customers won't notice a thing — except that you answer faster.

Do I have to replace all my Avaya handsets?

Often not. Many modern handsets carry across to 3CX or a hosted PBX, and where new hardware makes sense we'll tell you why before you spend a cent. As a Yealink reseller, we'll match the right phones to your new platform — and the honest way to a real number is a free bill analysis.
